Chris Green - Songwriter

Chris, from Burgess Hill, Sussex  is a lover of all types of music from classical, film music, country, pop to the latest charts. He plays drums, guitar & keyboard and has played many gigs in a variety of bands over the years

His main talents are with his songwriting which has proved very successful writing both music and lyrics. He writes in most styles, including pop, country, and has a particular strength in the many genres of ballads

Heart Problems
Unfortunately Chris suffered a serious medical condition in 2002 and was rushed into hospital and needed emergency heart surgery. After 6 weeks he left hospital to begin a long period of rehabilitation to prepare for another heart operation which took place the following year

His music was a major factor in his recovery and great therapy for him. He spent many hours with his guitar composing and writing, which was most prolific during this time. He has written some of his most successful songs in recent times following his heart operations which has also helped him to remain a very positive person

He did indeed show his appreciation for all the help and care he received at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton by staging a concert in aid of the Brighton Heart Support Trust in 2006. Forming the 'Chris Green Project' he performed many of his own songs at this concert - and dedicated 'Build you a new Heart' to the surgeons who helped to save his life

Musical Tastes
His musical background is quite varied and is a large part of his life. He enjoys listening to all styles of music from pop, country and R&B, but he has a special interest in film music. One of his favourite composers is Ennio Morricone - best know for 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' and he was thrilled to be able to attend one of his concerts when he was in the UK

Early Years
Chris started playing music as a young child, using his sister's hair brushes as drum sticks on the arms of their sofa. So it was not surprising that he ended up as a drummer in a band! Although in later years he was to play other instruments and start writing his own compositions as a very talented musician

Recording  to Producing
With so many of his songs becoming successful, Chris decided to record them and created the 'Chris Green Project' when local talented singer Kirsty joined him.
With Kirsty's distinctive voice on most of the songs, Chris on guitar, friend Vera on keyboards and others joining the Project to add both vocals and lead guitar, he recorded, arranged, mixed and produced all the songs on his debut album 'Road of Many Colours' (see Album page)

Future Projects
Currently Chris is working on the next album, which again has a diverse mix of songs which are very exciting. The band will also be working on more songs both from the debut album and the new one to perform when the CD is launched. With both the recording side and live activities, Chris is enjoying seeing his creative talents being appreciated by so many. Although his health condition has changed his daily lifestyle, he has been able to remain positive and appreciate life through the world of music in so many ways

Influences
Some of the artists that have inspired his writing are: Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, The Eagles, Alan Parsons Project, Poco, Toto, Elton John, Todd Rundgren, Mike Oldfield, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi and many others including film composers: Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith

Songwriting
He gained a skill in songwriting, first realising his talent when he was a runner-up in the American Song Festival in the USA. He
has written many songs over the years, several of which have proved popular across all ages. This continued with even more successes in both the UK and Ireland (see Song Success page)

Disasters in the world sometimes moved Chris to write songs about them in his own inimitable way, such as the powerful 'World Freedom Fell' written after the twin towers tragedy of 9/11 and the haunting 'White Magnolias' depicting the devastation of Hurricane Katrina (see video on Album Page)

Live performances
It followed that Chris's songs should be taken to a live audience, so the Chris Green Project performed at a few concerts with people enjoying the variety of his music, which was proving quite popular

With many more songs ready to be aired to a live audience, Chris always wanted to have his own band to  work exclusively on his music, so at the beginning of 2009 this dream was realised and the live side of the Chris Green Project was born. He now has added to the founder members with a drummer & guitarist/vocalist. They performed together for the first time at the Macmillan Charity Concert in 2009 and will be playing on April 17th 2010 (see Band members page)
